In praise of wild spaces

After a week of fighting to keep my spirit up, it took all of 2 minutes in the woods to breathe easier and restore my hope.

The sound of rushing water to drown out the thoughts that seemed to stick with me no matter how hard I tried to welcome them and then get past them.

The lovely soft green moss just because it has that effect on me....

The sweet little person in my life who reminds me everyday (if I am able to watch and pay attention) that all is hopeful....that the present and future is full of possibilities.
All in all, the feeling of spring and re-birth surrounded me this weekend...and I see it now.
Thanks to the wild spaces and my girl who lives her life closest to her heart no matter what.
A happy Tuesday to you.

Note to self

"There isn't any bad weather - just bad gear." Puddles are puddles. They are fun even in this cold spring. It's all in how one (okay, I) look at it.

A few springtime firsts

Finally, some Easter decorations made it to our Nature table.

Hoooray for Papa and his baking talents!

A beachside picnic...not exactly warm enough, but waterplay was still on the program.
I'm not sure how it was in your neck of the woods, but I am glad I had all these reminders around that it was actually technically spring...cuz the snowflakes and sleet told me otherwise!
Happy Monday to you all.

Note to self

Maybe sandals aren't the best choice in footwear just yet. When the forecast says a high of 12 degrees is to be expected that doesn't mean that is the morning temperature! Be patient....your Birks are just around the corner.

Spring notes

The pendulum has shifted....we are now outside at least as much as we are inside.
Sandcastles are being built again. Slides and swings are put into the rotation too. Naps are more welcomed. Mama feels more like herself.
All feels good.

Democracy

I came to a realization this weekend. It involves voting and the necessity of exercising this right. It's not that I don't vote, just that I never really and truly have known how to choose who to vote for. I have definite leanings...I know what I like and what I don't like, but my view on the process and eventual end result was always somewhat jaded. The candidates seem to say one thing to get elected and proceed to sometimes do the polar opposite once in office. Add to this all the talk of strategic voting and I wasn't sure what the point was.
What I realized this weekend is that voting should always reflect how you want the world to be. It seems so simple as I write this now...it only took me 21 years to figure it out. I have sometimes voted Green, and others NDP (thanks to the whole "strategic" voting mentality). This time my wholeheart is voting Green...not because I believe they will never get in and therefore will never have a chance to go back on their promises...but because I believe in it....I want this world to be better and greener.
I am ready for a lawnsign now.

This moment

Humming along with Soulemama this week...with a new "spring" in my step.....that's thanks to the fact that it finally feels like spring.

Note to self

(HA! I first typed in Not to self....what should that mean to me?)

39 times around the sun, and you still have so much to learn. For example, how come you didn't know that all humans can grow a mermaid tail...all one needs to do is be kind to a mermaid and they will teach you how. Pay Attention Mama.

A journey back

My Raine. Born April 5, 1997. An April day that was warmer and sunnier than the April we are experiencing right now. The warmth and sunshine became part of you....it must have because that is who you are. And I love you soooooo much. I am lucky to get to be your mum.
