On this day

which incidentally is five days into the first heatwave of this summer, you will find me in my kitchen. I will be stirring away in front of my stove, upping the temperature inside the house, making our first batch of strawberry jam. And during the cold winter months I will remember it every morning I put the jam on our toast. And I will be so thankful I did.

  1. Argh! I haven't been able to get out picking yet...I'm without a vehicle so hope I can get out before the season ends...I'm positively drooling over those berries!!

  2. What a beautiful way to look at it. I don't think we picked/canned enough. We've already gone through 2 jars of ours. Eeek!

  3. oh my, we're in a heat wave as well.
We did not get enough strawberries for jam, we only ended up with 7 pints. But we have 4 quarts frozen too. . .and the wild black raspberries are nearly ripe!

  4. Ah yes...there's nothing quite like the taste of homemade strawberry jam in the wintertime...well, except for peach butter...and blackberry jelly...oooh, and raspberry syrup...
